January 2000 - Present: Senior Research
Scientist. Norwegian Computing Center,
Department of Applied Research in Information Technology (DART), Oslo, Norway.
My past and present research areas encompass:
- PETWeb II -- Privacy-respecting Identity Management for e-Norge
- uTRUSTit - Usable TRUST in the Internet of Things
- GEMOM - Genetic Message Oriented Secure Middleware
- MARIAGE - Making Rich Media Accessible for Generations
- PETweb - Privacy Enhancing Technologies for Web-based Services
- LongRec - Records Management over Decades
- SAMPOS - Strategies for Seamless Deployment of Mobile Patient Monitoring Systems
- PerProt - Personalised Internet-Based Services and Privacy Protection
- DESDIFOR - Defining Standards in Digital Forensics
- CHARM - Challenges in a Holistic, Multidisciplinary and Adaptive Approach to Risk Management
- Middleware security with special focus on CORBA, Java/EJB, DCOM, and ActiveX.
- HARP (HArmonisation for the secuRity of web technologies and aPplications ) within the 5th EU/IST framework: The overall objective of the HARP project is to develop technologies and tools for the integration of Web oriented security systems and combine coherent services to demonstrate and quantify the value of security tools/mechanisms/systems harmonisation in business and citizen needs in the Information Society.
- Co-proposer of CORAS (A Platform for Risk Analysis of Security-critical Systems) proposal within the 5th EU/IST framework, see below for its main objective.
- CASENET (Computer-Aided solutions to SEcure electroNic commercE Transactions) proposal within the 5th EU/IST framework but rejected in the final round. Its main objective is to develop and implement a tool-supported framework for the systematic specification, design and analysis of protocols, and to generate componentized-protocol code for these protocols with proven security properties for electronic commerce transactions.
- I am also undertaking an investigation on (semi-)automated and formalized framework for the practice of security in the years to come on a private basis.
February 1998 - December 1999:
Research Scientist. Telenor,
Research
and Development Dept.,
Security Group, Kjeller, Norway.
I conducted research on the security aspects of distributed object computing systems, including object middleware (with special emphasis on CORBA security and CORBA firewall security), mobile communications and Internet. I have also worked on risk analysis and security policy related issues.
I proposed the basic idea in which the successful CORAS (A Platform for Risk Analysis of Security-critical Systems) proposal within the 5th EU/IST framework was based. Its main objective is to develop a practical framework for a precise, unambiguous and efficient risk analysis, by exploiting the synthesis of risk analysis methods with object oriented modelling, semiformal methods and tools, in order to improve the security analysis and security policy implementation of security-critical systems.
August 1997 - January 1998:
Senior Engineer. Telenor,
Research
and Development Dept., Oslo, Norway.
I was with the KOF/Architecture Group, where I worked on the FLEKSIT Project, and was one of the five sub-project managers. The purpose of the FLEKSIT project was to evaluate different types of middleware and security issues related to them, and to make recommendations as to which type of middleware Telenor should adopt as its standard integration technology, and how it should be used.
April 1996 - July 1997: Software
Development Engineer. Alcatel Telecom
Norway A/S, Division Telnet,
Oslo, Norway.
My work consisted of modelling, designing and implementating the ALMA CCB (Customer Care and Billing) system based on Systemator IV, Sysdul, ORACLE, and UNIX environments.
April 1994 - January 1996: Researcher/Software
Development Engineer. ABB Corporate Research,
SW Group and
NERA AS Division Satcom, SW Group, Billingstad, Norway
I worked on ABB NERA's Race project - SCORE (Service Creation in an Object-Oriented Reuse Environment)- and ABB Tralfa's robot system, and modelling, developing and maintaining control programmes and software development tools for the LES (Land Earth Station) Channel Unit (CU) subsystem of NERA's satcom, which involved among other things:
- Analysis of the requirements for the stand-alone LES of the INMARSAT Satellite Communication System, and the specification and description of the stand-alone functions of LES using SDL-92 (object-oriented Specification and Description Language), SDT (SDL Design Tool), and MSC (Message Sequence Chart). This project was done as part of the RACE-project "SCORE".
- Analysis, specification and design of ABB Tralfa's robot system for Continuous Programming (CP) mode (both teaching and running) using the Coad/Yourdon method, and implementation of this in C.
- Development and maintenance of SW development tool based on Harel's STATECHART model and ORACLE (SQLForms, SQLMenu, Top*Case and SQR) with automatic C-code generation.
- Maintenance and integration of DSP (Digital signal Processor) modem software (V22 and V32) into the CU system which in turn involved modification, development and testing.
- Development and integration of Secure Telephony Unit generation III (STUIII) functions into the CU system.
- Specification, design and implementation of CU's SW development tool for Script processing based on Visual C++, ODBC, SQL*Net, and ORACLE in PC and VAX environments.
January 1991- June 1993: Scientific
Fellow. CERN PS/PO
/CO,
Geneva, Switzerland.
My work consisted of developing software for the control and monitoring of the particle accelerators in distributed and complex environments.January 1989 - December 1990: Scientific Associate. CERN/DELPHI (Geneva, Switzerland) with home
During where I was responsible for the implementation of the control system for the DELPHI-SAT detector built by the Norwegian Group (Departments of Physics at University of Oslo & University of Bergen), and the integration of this control system into the DELPHI Slow Controls system as a whole. I also participated in the development of the data acquisition system for the DELPHI-SAT.
