Positions: Scholarship holder NAVF 1955-8; research asociate physics Cornell University 1959-60; Researcher 1960-1967 and research director Central Institute for Industrial Research (SI) 1968-78; Professor II in spin spectroscopy UiO 1970-78; Professor of Chemistry UiO 1.01.1979-30.06.2003. Since then professor emeritus at work at the institute. Head of the division of the history of chemistry in the Norwegian Chemical Society 2004-.

Elected positions at the University of Oslo: chairman Department of Chemistry 1972-3; vice dean Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences 1975 and 1980-2; vice rector 1985-88.
Member of the Royal Society of Sciences, Uppsala.

My research field was solid state NMR, but in recent years I have turned to the study of the history of chemistry in Norway.
