LaTeX
"LaTeX is a high-quality typesetting system, with features designed for the production of technical and scientific documentation."(http://www.latex-project.org/)
Due to some questions I put some links concerning LaTeX on this page. One page for the LaTeX system is at http://www.latex-project.org/. There you can also find a short user guide as well as a (not so) short introduction. Moreover there is also a (short and not complete) list of books about LaTeX.
I have created a small example tex file that hopefully explains a thing or two. You can download the tex file and corresponding images here. The generated document then looks like this.
Some other links concerning introduction and information about LaTeX:
There are also (La)TeX implementations for Windows available. One of them is MiKTeX. If you use this you may also install ImageMagick on your Windows system. This gives you among other things the nice "convert" command for converting images in your shell.
If you have other links or information about LaTeX that you think should stay here too send me an email.
