Islam in Bosnia: Online
(annotated links)

Note: This page is badly out of date.

The following is a selection (under continuous construction!!) of interesting pages on Islam by Bosnian Muslims, as well as pages on Islam in Bosnia by non-Muslim researchers. Some of the sites are in fact based outside Bosnia. Most of them are in Bosnian language only, or give very limited information in English. All links will open in separate windows.

DISCLAIMER: The listing of websites on this page does not imply any endorsement of the sites or any of their contents, nor do I assume any responsibility whatsoever for their contents. The annotations (which are mine) are intended as a guide to further browsing only.

Islamic community (IZ)

  • >>Rijaset - The official site of the leadership (Rijaset) of the Islamic Community (Islamska zajednica), the established organisational framework of Islam in Bosnia, headed by reisu-l-ulema dr. Mustafa Ceric.
  • >>Preporod: Islamske informativne novine - The IZ's bi-weekly paper, online.
  • >>El-Kalem ? - After years “under construction,” the IZ’s publishing branch finally (May 2006) got a website up and running, but no online bookstore. When I last checked (November 2007), the website was down or gone.

Other Bosnian Islamic pages

  • >>Znaci (Signs) - This site aims to carry on the good work of the journal Islamska misao (sadly defunct since the early 1990s). Includes material on tasawwuf (Islamic mysticism); the fatwas of the IZ Fatwa Council; and more.
  • >>Novi Horizonti - Magazine published in Zenica, outlet for moderate Ikhwani/Salafi tendencies. Carries an important fatwa column. Extensive contents freely available on-line.
  • >>Saff - Magazine close to the Active Islamic Youth. Very little content available for non-subscribers.
  • >>BHMuslimMonitor - A fairly new site (started 2005), one of the best for current debates.
  • >>Dzemat.org - Various materials, active site. The highly original "About Us" page says it's run by a diverse group spanning Sufis, Salafis and Ikhwanists, and that it will publish only such material as all Muslims could agree with.
  • >>IslamBosna - The site of a student group that calls itself the “Muslim Brotherhood.” One of the first professional-looking Islamic websites in Bosnia.
  • >>Nahla - The very active Sarajevo-based Islamic women’s organisation Nahla (“Bee”).
  • >>Kewser - Another Islamic women’s organisation, which publishes the Zehra magazine.
  • >>BiH.org - Various texts and (externally hosted by islaam.com) audio, apparent Salafi tendency, on a URL that many would envy them.
  • >>Islam.co.ba - "Islamic informative portal" run by a student team. Various texts.
  • >>Islam-bih.com - Texts & audio.
  • >>Studio Din - “Islamic Da’wa Service Online.” A team including students at the Islamic University of Medina. Focused on mission (da'wa) and defending the memory of the mujahedin in Bosnia. Carries a "proclamation" (Proglas) against exaggerated takfir.
  • ...and many more... Watch this space.
