Signal processing for sensor array processing
We study the theory and application of array signal processing, for
instance in medical ultrasound, sonar, and acoustic positioning. We
collaborate with a cluster of world class Norwegian companies in the
fields of acoustics and ultrasound technology, majoring on medical
ultrasound.

Signal processing for radio, internet and telecoms
The scope of this activity is on adaptive signal processing techniques
applied to communications problems. The emphasis is on algorithm design
and performance analysis of the physical (transmission) layer and link
layer, particularly in future mobile wireless internet networks.

Medical Image Analysis
The group is collaborating with the Section for Digital Pathology at
the Norwegian Radium Hospital, aiming at early cancer diagnosis and
prognosis. A number of tools for extraction of textural information
from digital images of cell nuclei have been developed.

Image analysis for remote sensing applications
Monitoring the surface of the earth from satellite sensors is a field
which currently develops more rapidly than ever before.
This creates a need for new methodology for automatic image analysis.
We work on developing new image classification methods which combine
data from different sensors, with different spatial resolution, and
taken at different times.
