My main position is now as Director of Center for Biomedical Computing (CBC), a Norwegian Center of Excellence hosted at the Simula Research Laboratory. I am on 80% leave from my position as Professor of Mathematical Modeling at the Department of Informatics, University of Oslo (I spend the 20% part of this position on teaching and supervision). Much of my time is currently devoted to the work as Editor-in-Chief of SIAM Journal on Scientific Computing.
From 2007 my main research tasks are related to CBC. This center covers computational middleware for numerical solution of partial differential equations, robust numerical methods for laminar and turbulent flow, including fluid-structure interactions, mathematical modeling of air and blood flow in the human body, and modeling of the electrical activity in the heart. We apply our generic methods both in biomedicine and in geoscience.
In the past I have worked part-time at the Physics of Geological Processes Center of Excellence at the University of Oslo; Numerical Objects, a company that commercialized the Diffpack software; the Department of Scientific Computing, Uppsala University; and SINTEF Applied Mathematics. Before taking up the position at the Department of Informatics in 1999, I worked as an Associate Professor and later as a full Professor of Mechanics at the Department of Mathematics, University of Oslo.
