4.3.3 Multimodal Culture

To coalesce the last paragraphs ahead of the following: Digital multimodal communication might be said to be part of a broader visualisation of culture that challanges the potential of language-based theories of communication and meaning. Following the developments in multimodal communication technology, which allows for multiple media-forms displayed, the need for a non-linguistic theoretical approach may be stressed further. What this section offers is not a new, non-linguistic, critical approach to multimodal digital media in visualised culture. What this section offers, is examples of the difficulties we are confronted with in both production and consumption, when visualisation merge with digital media. Secondly, this sections suggests a response to these difficulties with regard to how practice-based method may inform studies of digital media by artefacts that may “inhabit” or “embody” theory.
