I study the design and use of information and communication technology in medicine, drawing upon methodological and theoretical approaches from the research fields of IS (Information Systems), CSCW (Computer Supported Cooperative Work), and STS (Science and Technology Studies), in particular focusing on information infrastructures.

My PhD dissertation: Cultivating Networks: Implementing Surgical Telemedicine can be found here (pdf). My PhD work was related to telemedicine, or more specific to utilisation of wide bandwidth networks for minimal invasive surgery (mostly laparoscopic surgery). After my Phd (achieved June 2002) I continued studying clinical and administrative information systems in health care.

My education and previous work practice:

B. Eng. in medical technology (clinical engineering) at Høgskolen i Stavanger (Stavanger University College).
M. Eng. in applied natural sciences (also at HiS). Here I also studied signal and image processing.
1996-1997: Service engineer at the Clinical/Biomedical Engineering Department at the National Hospital in Oslo.
1998: Working with network planning in Telenor.
June 1998 - December 2001: Ph.D studies at the Department of Informatics, University of Oslo.
January 2002 - June 2003: Assistant Professor at the Institute of Informatics, UiO.
July 2003-2005: Postdoc
July 2005-2007: Associate Professor
August 2007 - Dec 2008: Project Manager and Researcher in the FIPP project
