Naeem Khademi
PhD Candidate
Norway
Short bio CV
I am Naeem Khademi, PhD student in the Networks and Distributed Systems group (ND) at the Department of informatics, University of Oslo, Norway, where I am advised by Prof. Michael Welzl and co-advised by Prof. Stein Gjessing. I was born in Shiraz, Iran, in 1983, where I studied until High School. I graduated from Kish University (Iran) with a bachelor degree in Computer Software Engineering in September 2006. From December 2007 to February 2010 I studied in Malaysia and received my Master degree in Computer Networks from University Putra Malaysia . In August 2010 I joined the ND group and started my research on "AP buffer sizing for 802.11 WLANs". From May 2012 until December 2012 I was a visiting researcher at the Centre for Advanced Internet Architectures (CAIA) at Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne- Australia, working within newtcp project in collaboration with Prof. Grenville Armitage.
My research interests are in performance analysis, evaluation and optimization of 802.11 WLANs, mainly by focusing on the cross-layer interactions of PHY/MAC and transport layers (e.g. TCP) in such networks. My current main interest is to improve the end-to-end latency (well-known as bufferbloat problem) and goodput of TCP and real-time multimedia traffic over infrastructure-based 802.11 WLANs. I am also a member in European RITE project which aims on reducing Internet's transport latency.
You may want to have a look at my publication list or check my toolbox on the research page to know more in details about my research tools and implementations. Check my availability in schedule and contact me through this link.
Available Master Thesis Projects: Check these three pages if you are interested to pursue your Master project under my guidance and supervisory of Prof. Michael Welzl:
- Implementation of 802.11 rate-adaptation mechanisms in ns-2
- 802.11n for ns-2
Notice: if you're a master student at the University of Oslo and interested in taking your project in Networks and Distributed Systems Group under my advisory, you can send me your request by email.
Teachings: I am the course manager of INF3190 (Data Communications) for Spring 2012 semester in IFI/UiO. Find the course time-plan here (in Norwegian).
Co-advising (Master Students): - Past (with Prof. Michael Welzl): Tor Martin SlÄen, Classifying Rate Adaptation Algorithms in IEEE 802.11b/g/n Wireless Networks
802.11 Wireless Testbed: We are in process of developing and maintaining an 802.11 WLAN testbed located in the "Network Lab" of Networks and Distributed Systems Group at IFI. It consists a few number of Dell Optiplex G520 desktop PCs (19 nodes) equipped with wireless NICs with Atheros and Broadcom chipsets and Madwifi / b43 drivers respectively. This work-in-progress Wiki page provides some details about our testbed.
