Thank you to all participants

Dear friends and colleagues,

We’d like to thank you all very much again for having taken time in your busy schedules to come to Oslo and for making the summer institute 2018 such a success. We very much appreciate the thought and effort that you put in and the collaborative and intellectually stimulating atmosphere that you helped us to develop.

The future

Watch this space for details of the next summer institute.

We have left the details of The Norwegian Summer Institute on Language and Mind 2018 below because they are a very good guide to what we aim to achieve.

Some places to stay in Oslo

Lecturers at the institute: You will be contacted with details of your accommodation. Email us if you have any questions or problems.

The information on this page is intended to help students who wish to attend the conference to find a place to stay. The options are listed in approximate order of price, from least to most expensive.

In previous years, many students have found good inexpensive accommodation through well-known online marketplaces.

Below we list some more traditional alternatives.

Katarinahjemmet Guest House

An inexpensive, pleasant guest house attached to a convent. About 20 minutes walk from the conference venue. Minimum stay of two nights. No need to be Catholic or female to stay here.

Haraldsheim hostel

The only official youth hostel in Oslo. Not very centrally located, but not far from a T-Bane (Metro) station, on a line that goes directly to the Blindern campus.

Short stay apartments

Oslo Apartments

These are for stays of three nights or more. For more than one person sharing these might be cheaper than a hotel.

Coch's Pensjonat

A fairly cheap place to stay, in a nice part of the town centre.

Thon Hotels

Another possibility is a room at one of the Thon hotels. Thon is a big Norwegian hotel chain which has several branches in central Oslo.

Of their budget hotels in Oslo, the best location is probably the Thon Munch, right in the centre of town and convenient for a tram ride to the Blindern campus.

The Thon Astoria is also very central.

The Thon Spectrum is in a convenient, but somewhat down-at-heel part of the town centre, near the central railway station.

The Thon Gyldenløve is not a budget hotel, but is conveniently located in the west end of the city centre, and it is pleasant inside.

Best Western Kampen Apartment Hotell

Not very central, but close to the t-bane (tube) and in a nice part of east Oslo.

Comfort Hotel

This group has several hotels in Oslo.
