Details coming later in 2017. Watch this space.

See below for details of the summer institute which took place in August 2017.

Thank you to all participants

Dear friends and colleagues,
We’d like to thank you all very much again for having taken time in your busy schedules to come to Oslo and for making the summer institute such a success. We very much appreciate the thought and effort that you put in and the wonderful collaborative atmosphere that you helped us to develop.

Some places to stay in Oslo

Lecturers at the institute: You have been contacted with details of your accommodation. Email us if you have any questions or problems.

The information on this page is intended to help students who wish to attend the conference to find a place to stay. The options are listed in approximate order of price, from least to most expensive.

You may want to ask students who came to last year's summer institute for recommendations. The easiest way to do that is probably to post a message on the Summer Institute Facebook page (It's a closed group – so you’ll have to send a request to join, which we’ll approve as soon as we can.)

Hostels

Katarinahjemmet Guest House

An inexpensive, pleasant guest house attached to a convent. About 20 minutes walk from the conference venue. Minimum stay of two nights. No need to be Catholic or female to stay here.

Haraldsheim hostel

The only official youth hostel in Oslo. Not very centrally located, but not far from a T-Bane (Metro) station, on a line that goes directly to the Blindern campus.

Short stay apartments

Oslo Apartments

These are for stays of three nights or more. For more than one person sharing these might be cheaper than a hotel.

Hotels

Coch's Pensjonat

A fairly cheap place to stay, in a nice part of the town centre.

Thon Hotels

Another possibility is a room at one of the Thon hotels. Thon is a big Norwegian hotel chain which has several branches in central Oslo.

Of their budget hotels in Oslo, the best location is probably the Thon Munch, right in the centre of town and convenient for a tram ride to the Blindern campus.

The Thon Astoria is also very central.

The Thon Spectrum is in a convenient, but somewhat down-at-heel part of the town centre, near the central railway station.

The Thon Gyldenløve is not a budget hotel, but is conveniently located in the west end of the city centre, and it is pleasant inside.

Best Western Kampen Apartment Hotell

Not very central, but close to the t-bane (tube) and in a nice part of east Oslo.

Comfort Hotel

This group has several hotels in Oslo.
