Education/ training

I work as a medical geneticist at the Department of medical genetics, Ullevaal university hospital, Oslo/ Institute of medical genetics, University of Oslo.

I expect to be formally licensed as a medical geneticist (`consultant/ specialist in medical genetics') in a couple of months. (This actually happened, some days ago...!)

I have done one year and a half of pediatrics, and I hope to be able to finish my specialization in pediatrics.

After finisihing my medical studies I have studied philosophy of science (equivalent of half a year's full time studies), statistics (eqv one year), informatics/ artificial intelligence (eqv one year and a half), and latin (eqv `half a semester', one semester - part time).

For some six or seven years I have been teaching medical genetics to medical students (University of Oslo) and to nurse students (Ullevaal hospital). I have primarily done small group teaching, but I have also been giving lectures and participated at microsopy courses.

Projects

For my MD thesis I work on syndrome diagnosis in the newborn, trying to apply methods from the informatics field of artificial intelligence to this problem area. I have tried out the ID3 algorithm as well as the genetic algorithm.
