What will happen to the car in the future?
I'm going to take care of it, because it's a very rare car nowadays,
especially with its
Variomatic gear system. A friend of mine told me that "It's a rare car from the 70's in a
good condition, and the cars from that time is usually not in a good condition".
The norwegian expression sounds better: "Et
genuint godt eksemplar av genuine dårlige 70-tallsbiler" sagt av Kjell Pettersen.
My relation to DAF limits itself to my grandmother Berit Kylland, who had a red DAF-66 Marathon (with
stripes on the sides, 1.3 litre engine and double headlights) while I was a little kid. My grandparents
bought the car while I was a baby. I can still remember the car.
April 1999 I got in touch with a guy that were selling his DAF-66, and I got it for the price you get,
when you deliver the car for the scrapyard. It's now doing it's job as a spare car.
Spring 2005
Now I finally have a
plan
for getting my DAF back on the road! It is now 30 years old, and I won't have to pay that much road tax
for it. I have to buy some small parts for it to keep it running. See you
while driving my DAF :)
In April 2005 I managed to start it after an adjustment of the ignition and a replacement of the fuel pump. The engine started
nicely after those modifications. The brakes was a bit locked, but after slamming on the rear wheels it now brakes
quite nicely too. I will try to get it through the EU/MOT/TUV-sertification as well. Keep reading here when I do something new with my DAF.
Spring 2008
Still no news for the car... it's still standing in a garage and waiting
for better times.. I did some work on it a couple of years ago, and I
started the car up. Sounded nice but brakes might stuck a bit. Sooner or
later I will get the car on the road :)
