Brief background:

I am research general director at the National Institute of Occupational Healthwhich is a research institute contributing to the increased knowledge on occupational health based on biomedical, natural and social sciences. My main assignment is to be in charge of the institute's research administration and scientific strategies and -priorities, in addition to my own research work. The Institutes professional staff includes scientists with broad experience in occupational medicine, industrial hygiene, analytical chemistry, toxicology, molecular biology, physiology, psychology and sociology. The Institute has 110 employees organized in seven departments.

I am also employed as professor II in analytical chemistry at Department of ChemistryUniversity of Oslo, where I teach courses in chromatography and supervise master and PhD students, as well as taking part in the research work carried out at the research group for analytical and environmental chemistry.

Research interests:

I utilize chromatographic techniques and develope chromatographic methods for the separation and determination of organic compounds of importance for human health from occupational air and biological matrices. I have a special interest in miniaturized separation techniques applied for determination of  trace amounts of compounds present in limited sample volumes, such as packed capillary liquid chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry.

Developed chromatographic methods are applied for workplace exposure assessments and epidemiological studies.
