Dear visitor, Kjære besøker
I would like to welcome you to my web pages. My name is Dani Schmid and I am a senior researcher at the PGP (Physics of Geological Processes), located in Oslo, Norway.
PGP is a center where physicists and geologists work together towards a better understanding of our planet. And could there be a better place for this than Norway, with its rugged mountains, endless fjords, glaciers, natural beauty and resources?
My background is in geology and I develop analytical and numerical models for geological processes ranging from small particles in shear zones, up to large scale folding and sedimentary basin formation. While I keep working on quantitative structural geology, my current work focuses on the coupling of different disciplines in Earth science, in particular the interaction between mineral growth/reaction and deformation.
I hope you find some interesting information about my science and life through the navigation at the top of this page.

Thanks for passing by!

Larger 3D Models
With our new 3D code we have successfully run unstructured finite element models with more than 100'000'000 degrees of freedom!

E.V.E.N.T.S.
I am organizing a special session at the EGU 2008 General Assembly and a short course on numerical modelling at the 33rd IGC.
